My friends will all be famous

Forsooth, my friends will all be famous.

Listening to Triple J today, I heard the one and only Veronica Milsom chatting with the Doctor.  WELL VM and I were once Creative Arts buddies, just tramping around the set of The Taming of the Shrew wearing lycra.
I clearly remember Miss M saying she was going to be a reporter one day, and here I find her a regular contributor to Hungry Beast on ABC and also doing regular stand in shifts on the J's.  Well done, VM, well done.

Happy as I am, I stop to think about my non career panning before me.  Two things I think I would rock at are to interview people Andrew Denton style and write silly things and put them on stage Andy Griffiths style.  I sense an Andrew theme here, I will see where that goes.  However.  I am yet to know how these things will occur with my non inspirational non dedicational attitude to all things career mindset.

I will sit here in my shlumpiness and get back to you with any progress I make as I watch YouTube videos.

Autumn

When I notice colours of the sunset and the colours of the leaves have called each other up and said "Are you wearing what I'm wearing today??"  I know autumn has officially set in.  I think the yellowredauburnorange of Autumn is truly the best colour ever.

We have moved house, I have completed Term One and am now on holidays - which so far have been not quite relaxing but still laughter filled.  My need for sleep I think is double what it was on Day 1 of holidays and my stress for Term 2 is nearly tripled - mostly because I cannot for the life of me figure out what on earth to teach them for three more terms.  Oh well. That will come.

I'm feeling exhausted and pensive today - hence the need for rambly blog post.  I am sure I will entertain you once again but I'll need a little more warm-up time.  Sorry.

If you need a laugh then YouTube Lano and Woodleys 'The Pool' - comedy gold.

Why I love the world

I am in a state of blissful happiness I haven't felt in a long time.

I would like to gratefully thank the Lord for providing:
1. Sunshine.
2. Water sources that involve swimming/lilo-ing/snorkelling/fishing/etc.
3. Good friends.
4. Sleeping bags.

Having spent 5 days at Big River and 4 days at Tidal River I am feeling suitably awesome.  Something about the Prom that reminds me of God's creativity and love.  Christmas was delightful as was my ultra relaxed birthday.  New years was happily sleepily uneventful, apart from blowing up the camp torch, and the Prom was the best weather I think I've experienced in about 2 years.  I mean - sun, slight breeze, perfect glassy clear water that shimmered in the light.  ---siiiggghhh---

I am now an ostrich with its head in the sand avoiding coming back to real life.

This is the lame photo (from google images) that can't possibly properly capture the exquisite view from Mount Oberon, which took TB and I a total of 45 minutes hiking uphill to experience!

Month of Vege = The End

I would like to give myself a huge serve of SHAME for the Ultimate Fail that was Month O Vege.

I did learn some really great things though - like how tuna is the new chicken, and what to do with tofu and how easy and tasty felafels are every week!  My real downfall was when we went to a mate's birthday and the ONLY thing on the menu was a whole spit roast lamb that had been cooking for 12 hours.  WHO CAN SAY NO?!!  I have resigned to the fail, but decided I will give it another really good crack sometime next year.  Also because the whole 'lets try and help lose weight too' thing didn't work either.... urrrggghhh..

Anyway, I have done LOTS of fun thing recently, like the Moonlight Cinema and BBQs and Scuba Diving and Christmas dinners and present shopping and wrapping and Christmas tree buying and wine.  I love Christmas.

MonthOVege: Day 12

Apparently there are different types of Tofu.  I had never thought of that before.  I mean, red lentils are red lentils and carrots are carrots.  According to Wikipedia (the trustful source): "Tofu (豆腐 Japanese tōfu, Chinese dòufu, Korean doobu) or bean curd is a food made by coagulating soy milk and then pressing the resulting curds into soft white blocks."  So it would make sense that there are different 'brands' or ways of processing said bean curd... I had just never thought of that before.

In our stir fry last week we had a very nice brand of tofu.  We are not big tofu eaters, but we feel as a meat replacement it really does do well - i think its the chewyness that really helps. I have a friend at work who says she doesn't like "thick things in my mouth."  I try not to crack laughing everytime she says this and get given A LOOK - you know, the MUM one.  Rudeness aside, she means she doesn't like heavy sauces or creams or things that feel 'thick'.  Pasta with a creamy sauce is apparently 'thick' but with a lemon and chilli sauce could be considered 'thin'.  Baileys or Kahlua is thick, Vodka and Tequila is thin (I pity a woman who doesn't enjoy a glass of Baileys!)  Anyway, I find tofu quite 'thick' and I think it contributes to that sort of meaty sensation that you look for in a dinner time meal.  Sorry for the bajillion innuendos in this paragraph.  In-YOUR-end-o.

How pretty is this tofu??

Last night we ate spinach, ricotta and roast pumpkin canneloni.  The back of the packet recipe for canneloni is very good and lots of online reviews think so too.  I have to skimp on the nutmeg though as I am not a big nutmeg fan after one Christmas overdosing on eggnog.  Eggnog, is very thick.  So I go light on the nutmeg and otherwise just use the back of the packet recipe.  No, sorry, I lie.  I don't even fully use the packet recipe - I use tomatoes out of a jar and I don't heat it up first, I let the oven do that bit for me.

Roasting the pumpkin is the key to this dish. Also, small pieces of pumpkin are about the only thing I have successfully roasted in my prehistoric oven so I make the most of it when I can.

Todays lunch I had tuna sushi with soy sauce (yum!)  Soy is apparently the god of veggie food - it makes soy beans, soy sauce and of course soy milk which is often associated with vegans and which I drink when I feel like a 'thick' drink.  You know.

Month of Vege: Day 11

Monday lunch I ate pasta with spinach, mushroom and napoli sauce.  Monday night was veggie Thai curry and leftovers on Tuesday lunch.  Tuesday night there was felafels and I just ate a fish souvlaki for Wednesday lunch = petit miam = french for mmmmmm, yum!

I wanted to put that out there before I admit that:
1. I ate roast on Saturday and chicken sandwhiches and burritos on the weekend.
2. I ate BBQ Pork and Mongolian Lamb and Lemongrass Chicken on Sunday.
3. I ate McDonalds french fries and a frozen coke - which I know doesn't qualify as meat but seems to need a confession.

The lovely patient Gemma

This is my last really fond memory. We were babysitting Ollie and we set up our beach tent in the backyard. Gemma chilled with us and let Ollie "bong" her on the head with his squishy ball over and over and over. A nice moment with his, and my, favourite Toby. I will always remember Gemma as "the other woman" fighting for T's love, putting her smelly head between us when we sat on the couch and staring lovingly up at Toby whilst banging her tail against my calves.

You were lovely.

Month of Vege: Day 5

Yesterday was leftover stirfry with many veggies and tofu, topped with an assortment of flavourings including much chilli, lemon, basil and even a hint of tabasco!
Last night I ate baked eggs with mushroom, basil and cheese with a bit of a rocket salad on the side.  Okay the salad consisted of rocket, a bit of tomato and balsamic dressing.  Baked eggs is the best way to do a fancy omelette.  It's much tastier and looks a lot more profesh.  Trust me.

Today I've had toast with vegemite and some strawberry yoghurt.  Feeling pretty hungry.

There have been two mini fails in the past two days - toby ate a pork dumpling and i accidentally ate a mini piece of chicken.  Oh well.  This weekend there will be much meat probably as we are away with Jewish people - and they lovvve chicken!  Tonights menu is hopefully fish (speared by my own husband if he can) and a salad with punkin, chickpeas and maybe even beetroot.  YUM.

In other news, I officially resigned my job yesterday!  Eek!  On to bigger and better things with the Lord's leading.
