We were thinking the other day about the people in Mongolia freezing their butts off and cooking their food using yak poo or whatever (I dunno, TB was sharing some insight based on very loose knowledge he learnt from watching David Attenbourgh.)

And it's like, well, why dont they just stop sitting around trying to pass time in the freezing cold and move somewhere else?!! I mean, C'MON guys! Don't DO that to yourselves!
But then, I thought, well the people who live in the Maldives - yo u know, where you hang out in the sun, swim and fish all day - are probably thinking about the people in Melbourne "Whaaaa t are you doing there?!! Don't DO that to yourselves!!"

But here in melbourne, it doesn't even enter our heads to up and move to the Maldives. So, arguably, the people in Mongolia wouldn't think about up and moving to Melbourne.
My new PhD topic is about: the migrating habits of the native peoples of Mongolia in comparison with the people of the Maldives, and how these trends impact our living conditions and discourse in the inner suburbia of Melbourne.
I really feel that this will contribute to the knowledge bank of our society. Particularly the bit where I get to travel to interview the Maldivian people.
Postscript: I entirely understand I have used very subjective and emotionally loaded visual representations of entire nations to make a loose, unsupported argument. Perhaps I would make a better journalist on Today Tonight than a PhD student.
