Gotta love modern scriptwriting...

Or should I say 'script-copying and pasting.' Because lots of scriptwriters just can't come up with inventive storylines anymore. They haven't been taught what goes in to a good character, an interesting plot development, a unique setting and conflict. They have to take old movies, tv shows, etc and rehash them. Or just make sequels. Take:
Night at the Museum 2
The Pink Panther 2
Fast and Furious

etc. etc.

Also note the lack of television CHARACTERS anymore. These days reality tv show has obliterated characters for the replacement of you - the average viewer - hyped up into a glam rock all singing, backyard blitzing, cooking extradonnaire who fills us with all the drama, hype and tears we need. We have lost the sense of a good character. or an original idea. Bless bless the Chaser boys, the Gruein tranfer team, the thank god you're here people, who strive to think 'what can we do new?' (Cynically - that is of course until they realise what they have currently got pays millions if only they switch over networks.)

Anyway, enough of my rant. Really, DESPITE this, i saw Star Trek the new movie tonight and i loved it. It was AWESOME. It had all the right amount of spunk, action and explosions that you need from a satisfying movie. It had the classic characters revamped. And I gotta give it to the rehashing star trek writers. They actually succeeded in making a movie in the exact star trek format but with younger, hotter actors/characters. How?!! Well of course the star trek crew on the USS Enterprise are now in an ALTERNATE REALITY where everything is the SAME, except it is DIFFERENT! Because the original Spock is sent from the FUTURE as now an old man spock who comes to share his star trekky wisdom with the NEW, HOT Spock who has a cute Beyonce-style love interest. Hell yeah!

And of course now because the cast are young, naive and starting their new adventure, there is room for MORE and MORE and MORE and MORE sequels!!!! Hooray for the writers not actually having to do any WORK!

I embrace the new star trek. It's fun and it's a chance for the new generation to experience the joys of the good, solid characters of the old star trek in a format they want and need (read: explosions). I also shame the writers for giving themselves and the actors and easy, easy road to a LOT of money making many sequels in the future.

Ps. Did spock have a love interest in the originals? Did he ever make-out? Did he know HOW to? Well - now he does! Heck yeah he does!
